NUC accredited 9 new courses in Futminna, check here

In line with the
National
Universities
Commission’s
drive to
ensure that degree programmes run
across various tertiary institutions in the
country are in tandem with its stipulated
rules and guidelines, a large team of NUC
officials visited the institution this week to
ascertain how the programmes are being
run.
The departments and Schools that
underwent the litmus test of NUC
accreditation exercise were; four
departments in the School of Engineering
& Engineering Technology (SEET) namely;
Agric & Bioresources, Civil, Mechanical,
Chemical and Electrical/Electronic
Engineering, department of Information
and Media Technology, School of
Information & Communication
Technology (SICT), department of Water
Resources, Aquaculture & Fisheries
Technology, School of Agriculture &
Agricultural Technology (SAAT),
department of Geology, School of Physical
Sciences (SPS) and department of Library
& Information Technology, School of
Technology Education (STE).
During the exit meeting with the
department of Geology on Tuesday,
December 2, 2014 at the VC’s Conference
Room, Main Campus, the Leader of the
team, Prof. Agbaji Ogezi revealed that
most of the team’s assessments of the
institution’s Geology programme are in
conformity with NUC’s required
standards.
Prof. Ogezi commended the University’s
beautiful campus, while noting that the
assessments done by the team were on
admission requirement, quality of
examinations, external examiner, staff
ratio to students, laboratory/lecture hall
space, and curriculum as well as office
accommodation.
He further praised Management of the
University for providing wireless internet
facilities for both staff and students and
for stocking the departmental library with
current titles.
In the same vein, the Vice-Chancellor of
the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi
Akanji, FNSBMB, received a preliminary
report from the NUC accreditation team
to the department of Water Resources,
Aquaculture & Fisheries Technology,
School of Agriculture & Agricultural
Technology (SAAT).
In his brief report presentation to
Management, Prof. Egrinuya Eneji
expressed satisfaction with the
philosophy and O’ Level requirements for
the programme, adding that they are in
line with NUC’s guidelines.
After inspecting the University’s
engineering programmes for three days,
the accreditation team to School of
Engineering & Engineering Technology
(SEET) led by Prof. Agboola Ogunlowo
from FUT, Akure also presented their
preliminary report to the VC.
Speaking at the brief event, Prof.
Ogunlowo said the team members were
impressed with the general safety
measures put in place by the University’s
Management at the various laboratories
and workshops, stating that it would
enhance quality learning, teaching and
research.
The team leader, appealed to
Management to allow Lab technicians to
undergo training and re-training on safety
measures and operation of engineering
equipment.
Other teams that presented their
preliminary reports to the VC were the
accreditation teams to departments of
Library & Information Technology and
Information and Media Technology.
Responding, the VC of the institution, Prof.
Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB,
thanked the various accreditation teams
for their in-depth reports on the
programmes which he noted would help
improve the quality of the programmes
as well as the University’s graduates.
Prof. Akanji assured the NUC teams that
Management would look into the reports
and expedite action on all the
observations raised while pledging the
institution’s readiness to comply with all
NUC guidelines in the running of its
programmes.
