UI graduates 52 students of Pan African University

Fifty – two graduating students from Nigeria , Ethiopia , Zambia , Kenya , Tanzania, Ghana, Republic of Benin , Cameroon , Somalia and Liberia were recently awarded various certificates by the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute , University of Ibadan Centre, in a ceremony witnessed by the Commissioner for Human Resources , Science and Technology , African Union Commission , Prof . Sarah Agbor.
The centre is one of the five study centres of the PAU, which is supported by AUC. Fifty of the students were awarded masters degree certificates , while the remaining two students bagged doctorate degrees in Environmental Management .
While commending UI for providing land for the development of the institute, Director of the centre , Prof Matthew Abatan , said that the students were given certificates for the successful completion of their studies in mineral exploration geo -sciences, petroleum geo -sciences, plant breeding, and reproductive health sciences.
In her speech , Prof Agbor said the African Union was proud to be associated with an idea geared towards supporting the livelihood and aspiration of its people .
“The African Union is proud to have played a major role in the process towards this graduation, which is connected with the story of the Pan African University .
“For centuries , Africa has a little visibility in knowledge generation and dissemination as a means of supporting the livelihood and addressing the needs and aspiration of its people .
“The idea of PAU therefore, emanated from the need to fill this vacuum and create a home- grown knowledge pool that focuses on the priorities of the African people , ” she said .
