The workers ’ unions in six tertiary institutions owned by the Oyo State Government have threatened to stage a peace walk on November 3 , 2017 to press home their demands for the payment of salary arrears owed them by the government .

The institutions are The Polytechnic, Ibadan ; Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo ; Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology , Igboora ; The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa ; The Oke- Ogun Polytechnic, Saki ; and College of Education, Lanlate .

A statement by the Joint Action Council of the institutions, signed by its Chairman , Adeniyi Babatunde , said the unions deliberated over their 15 -month unpaid salaries and the 25 per cent subvention to the schools by the state government at a meeting held between October 19 and 20 , 2017 at the Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki.

The statement said that it had written letters to security agencies in the state notifying them of the move.

“ The move is not a revolt against the government but a way of calling its attention to the pathetic condition of living of the workers and their various institutions. We urge well -meaning individuals in the state to mediate in this matter . The staff of those schools have children , parents and relations that depend on them for one thing or the other , ” Babatunde said .
