Be self reliant and job Creator – fed govt warn Graduate

.

1>>THE Federal Government has urged young graduates to
endeavour to be good entrepreneurs.
The Director, Graduate Internship Scheme, Federal Ministry
of Finance, Mr. Peter Papka, made the appeal at the
graduation ceremony of participants in the programme in
Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State.
The 12-month programme, he said, was to ensure that the
beneficiaries were self-reliant persons.
Papka, who was represented by the Assistant Director Legal
Service in the ministry, Mr. Paul Ogbu, added that the
initiative would equip the participants to face the challenges
in the labour market.
He noted that since the Nigerian labour market had become
highly competitive, there was a need to give adequate
training to graduates to enable them to become useful in
the
society.
Advising the participants to be employers of labour, he also
challenged them to contribute to reducing the
unemployment level in the country.
He said, “Everywhere you are, there is a problem you can
solve and when you learn how to solve that problem, you
would have excelled in that activity. Do not wait for
somebody to employ you; rather develop what you can do
to become an employer of labour.
“What the training has done is to equip them so that as they
go back to the labour market, they will not be the same
again.”
The facilitator of the scheme, Mr. Kenneth Emelifonwu,
while
describing the training as a success, added that the
programme would aid the participants in the labour market.
“The programme has been of tremendous help to the
interns. The job market is supposed to be controlled by the
one supplying skills to do the job, but in some cases the
employer is taking undue advantage of the employees.
“One of the issues that the GIS programme is trying to
resolve is to ensure that we get back to the level where the
employees take back the labour market and proffer the kind
of solutions that will develop the Nigerian economy.”
